Generation uses credits

Image to 3D Mesh Free: What Costs Credits | TRELLIS.2

Generate a 3D mesh from an image with TRELLIS.2: what the free trial covers, which tools spend no credits, and how a generation job is billed and refunded.

What Staying Free Actually Means Here

Two different things get called free on an image-to-3D site: tools that never cost anything, and generation jobs that can be tried once at no cost. They are not the same, and mixing them up is how people end up paying for a run they did not need.

On this service:

  • The browser 3D viewer and the browser 3D converter spend no credits. Files are read in the browser, and inspection or format conversion does not touch your balance.
  • The generator itself is a credit product. The generator displays the exact cost of the selected resolution before you submit, so nothing is charged by surprise.
  • Hosted 512³ generations use 150 credits. No new first-task allowance is granted; existing balances retain their original expiry.

The Free Path, Step by Step

  1. Create an account and open the image-to-3D generator.
  2. Upload one image. JPEG, PNG, WebP, GIF, and AVIF are accepted. Files above roughly 4 MB are downscaled before upload, so a large phone photo is resized rather than rejected; the picker accepts files up to 10 MB.
  3. Select 512³ for the first run. The job requires an available credit balance. The generator shows the credit cost of the chosen level either way.
  4. Submit and watch the tracked job. A standard job often completes in about one to three minutes; provider load can make it slower.
  5. If the job fails or is canceled, the reserved credits are returned through the task record.
  6. Inspect the mesh in the GLB viewer, then download it. Both steps are free.

What Is Not Free

There is no unlimited free generation tier on this service, and no page here should imply one.

  • Every additional generation starts a new billed job, including a retry with a different image.
  • 1024³ and 1536³ cost more than 512³, because they produce a denser mesh.
  • A second object, a second pose, or another character is another job.
  • Viewing, converting, and downloading the result of a paid job do not cost extra credits.

Current packs and subscriptions are listed on the pricing page; the generator remains the source of truth for the cost of one specific run.

How to Keep the Cost of a Mesh Down

  • Fix the input before you spend a credit: one subject, plain or transparent background, even lighting, no crop through the silhouette.
  • Evaluate at 512³ first. A shape that is wrong at the cheapest level will still be wrong at 1536³, just more expensive.
  • Use the viewer to inspect from every side before deciding to run again, since inspection is free.
  • Reuse what you have. The converter turns one paid GLB into glTF, OBJ, STL, PLY, or VOX without another generation.
  • Read the failure path: a canceled or failed tracked job returns its reserved credits, so a broken run is not a lost purchase.

Common Mistakes

  1. Assuming "free image to 3D mesh" means unlimited generation. It does not; it means a free trial run plus free tools around it.
  2. Paying for 1536³ before checking whether the 512³ silhouette matches the subject.
  3. Believing the converter charges credits, then paying for a second generation to get STL when a free conversion was available.
  4. Uploading a screen photo, a cropped image, or a watermarked stock preview, then re-running until the balance is gone.
  5. Forgetting that the trial is one-time and time-limited, then expecting the same allowance on a later account change.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I generate a 3D mesh from an image for free?

Every hosted generation, including the first job and retries, uses credits. No new first-task allowance is granted.

Do the viewer and converter really cost nothing?

Yes. The 3D viewer and the 3D converter run in the browser and spend no credits. Loading a model into them does not start a job.

What happens if a generation fails?

A failed or canceled tracked job returns the credits it had reserved. The task record is the audit trail for that.

Which image files can I upload?

The picker accepts JPEG, PNG, WebP, GIF, and AVIF up to 10 MB, and downscales files over roughly 4 MB before upload. Other file types are rejected before a job starts.

Where can I see the exact price of a run?

In the generator, before you submit: the cost of the selected resolution is shown with the job settings. Pack and subscription amounts live on the pricing page.
