What Image-to-3D Does

Image-to-3D uses a generative model to infer geometry and texture from a two-dimensional reference. The TRELLIS.2 web workflow accepts one source image and returns a textured GLB asset that you can inspect, download, and continue editing in a 3D tool.

This site is an independent service and is not Microsoft. The underlying TRELLIS.2 project is published by Microsoft on GitHub; this site provides its own web interface, billing, job tracking, and support.

A single image does not reveal the back, underside, real dimensions, or mechanical tolerances of an object. The model estimates those hidden areas. Treat the result as a generated starting asset, not a guaranteed production-ready mesh.

How to Generate a 3D Model

1. Sign in and prepare one image

An account is required to submit a generation job and keep credits attached to the correct user. Eligible first-time users can run one 512-resolution trial; the generator shows the exact credit cost before submission.

Use an image with:

  • One centered object and a complete silhouette
  • Even lighting and a plain or transparent background
  • Minimal blur, reflections, glass, or heavy occlusion
  • Enough resolution to show the details that matter

2. Start at 512 resolution

Use 512 for the first evaluation. It is the lowest-cost way to check whether the inferred shape and texture match the intended object. Move to 1024 or 1536 only when the first result justifies the additional credits.

Texture size and decimation options affect detail and file weight. Higher settings do not recover information that is absent from the source image.

3. Wait for the tracked job

The generator displays live job status. A 3D job often completes in roughly one to three minutes, but provider load, input complexity, and selected settings can make it slower. The page continues polling the server; it does not claim a result is complete until the provider reports success.

If a tracked task fails or is canceled, its reserved credits are returned through the auditable task-credit flow.

4. Inspect and download the GLB

After success, inspect the visible shape and texture before downloading. GLB is the direct generator output. Use the site's 3D viewer for inspection or the 3D converter when another compatible format is needed.

For Blender, use File → Import → glTF 2.0. For game, VFX, web, or print workflows, validate scale, topology, UVs, materials, polygon budget, and licensing requirements in the destination tool.

What Results Usually Need

Generated assets commonly benefit from:

  • Topology cleanup around thin parts and hidden surfaces
  • Scale and orientation checks
  • UV or texture correction
  • Retopology and polygon reduction for real-time use
  • Mesh repair and wall-thickness checks before 3D printing
  • Human review before commercial or safety-critical use

Functional replacement parts should be rebuilt or validated in CAD from real measurements. Do not infer engineering dimensions from one photograph.

Cost and Access

When signup credits are enabled, a current new account receives the full 150 credits needed for one 512 task. Only historical accounts created under the old 100-credit signup rule, with no prior 3D task, can receive an on-demand shortfall bridge. Current 150-credit grants are not topped up after use. Later generations use the displayed credit balance. See export and download for what stays free after a successful job.
